On Sunday the 21st of June, it will be Father’s Day in the US, which is the perfect time to honor every Dad. Father’s Day is something that is celebrated all over the world and is a popular day to give back to all the Dad’s in the world, they sure do deserve it. No matter how many great things happen in your life, none will ever be as great as the day you become a father.

The History of Father’s Day.

On the third Sunday in June every year we celebrate fatherhood, paternal bonds and the influence of fathers in society, but have you ever wondered where this tradition came from? Father’s Day was inaugurated in the United States in the early 20th century to complement Mother’s Day. More specifically, it was started in 1909 in Spokane, Washington by Sonora Smart Dodd. She was intrigued by the thought of having a day specifically to celebrate fathers. After hearing a sermon on Mother’s Day, she told her pastor that fathers should have a similar day. A day tohonor them. After seeing her father, a Civil War veteran, raise six children as a single parent, she believed fathers were owed their own day of celebration. Initially, it did not have a lot of success. In the 1920s, Dodd started studying and could no longer find the time to promote the celebration, so Father’s Day faded into nothing. That was until the 1930s when Dodd returned to Spokane and began promoting the celebration again, this time raising awareness at a national level. In 1972, the day was officially announced as a permanent national holiday.

Why Father’s Day is Important.

Celebrating Father’s Day reminds us of the importance and challenges of fatherhood. Often, the importance of a father can be neglected or completely ignored but the significance of a father is beyond words. Father’s Day is important because it allows us to show all forms of love, adoration, gratitude, respect, and kindness. It can help children become closer to their fathers and the celebration will help them understand the importance of the role that fathers play. This helps strengthen paternal bonds and encourages growth in the development of children.

Gifts for Dad.

You can never go wrong with a traditional Father’s Day gift, though nowadays the options are endless! A homemade gift never gets old, there is nothing about a handmade present that isn’t perfect. Handmade gifts are personal and thoughtful, so they are guaranteed to always make the recipient smile. What about breakfast in bed? Dad’s spend their life working hard for their family, so why not let them enjoy their breakfast in the comfort of their own bed, what a way to relax! At the end of the day, the best gift you can give any Dad is love. Love is something that comes in an endless supply and will warm the hearts of anyone. If you’re lucky enough to be spending Father’s Day with your Dad, give him all the love and adoration he deserves.

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s out there. Thank you for all you do and thank you for being you. We appreciate your existence and the role you play in our lives.
